Cowan Select Horses is based in both Montana and Oklahoma. In Montana we run in conjunction with our sister organization, Cowan & Son, a large commercial cow/calf and yearling operation. Our horses run in large pastures where they learn to handle themselves and what nature offers. We use horses in our everyday operations on the ranch; pasture doctoring, health checking, dragging calves for branding, sorting and trailing cattle. We require a horse with a good mind and sound structure to handle the daily rigors of ranch life.
Our Oklahoma operation stays true to our Montana roots. We run our horses out in pastures with their age groups where they can socialize and learn to handle themselves in a natural setting. Broodmares are brought up to the barn for foaling and, as soon as the foal is able, returned back to pasture. We wrangle our young horses to be ridden every day until our 3 year olds start their show careers, when they begin staying in our show barn. Even our seasoned show horses are turned in pastures when they aren't competing. We believe letting them run in a large pasture keeps them physically and mentally strong and sound.
In Oklahoma Robbie Boyce is our manager and resident trainer. He oversees ranch operations, showing and marketing. Robbie has lifetime earnings of over $1 million and is a multiple aged event finalist at the major NRHA, NRCHA and NCHA shows as well as at the AQHA World Show in reining, cow horse, cutting and roping events. Eric Branger is our Montana division trainer and has a background in NRCHA and AQHA ranch versatility events. Eric develops our ranch horses and shows in some cow horse and ranch versatility events.
Our main objective at Cowan Select Horses is to produce top quality prospects for show or ranch work. We have a nice selection of young horses through finished horses for sale at both locations. We’re proud of what we have to offer and would enjoy showing them to you.
